Services

  • Appointments

Appointments give you dedicated time with an advisor to dig deeper. If your situation feels layered or connected to what’s going on for you right now, booking an appointment is often the best choice. This is a great option for those interested in engaging in dialogue around their varied goals, challenges, progress, and development. Students can anticipate a non-judgmental listener who will engage them in reflective dialogue as they navigate the academic environment.

    Best for:

    • Course planning or program questions
    • Academic concerns or challenges
    • Ongoing or complex situations
    • Talking through goals and options
  • Chat

Chat is generally offered daily (Monday - Friday 9 -10 a.m.)  Chat is a great place to start if you’re not sure where to go or just need to connect with an advisor live for help with next steps. If your question turns out to be more involved, we may suggest another way to connect.

    Great for:

    • Quick questions
    • Information on policy or process
    • Timelines, and deadline
    • Connection to other resources
    • Drop-in style access to advising
  • Email

Email is a highly accessible form of advising and offers the opportunity for detailed and personalized responses by the appropriate year level advisor. When used well, students can fully outline questions and concerns via email and receive detailed response, referrals and resources. For questions that require discussion or back-and-forth, we would recommend a live option.

It is important to note that email response time may very, especially during peak periods, and students seeking more immediate assistance may be better served by a drop-in service.

  • In Person Drop-in

In-person drop-ins are ideal when you want to connect briefly with an advisor face-to-face without booking ahead. This service is typically available Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 1-3 p.m. and is often extended during peak periods (September, January). Students are seen on a first-come-first serve basis, in short (10-15min) private sessions. Our team of first year and/or upper year advisors will listen, support, and provide next steps or directions for follow up if the issue/inquiry cannot be resolved on the spot.

    Best for:

    • Quick, general questions about university processes, and policies
    • Students needing assistance with navigation an issue or developing a starting point to resolve an academic question/concern
    • Students seeking immediate academic assistance
  • Virtual Drop-in

Virtual Drop-in is generally only available during peak periods (September, January and July) to help address the high volume of inquiries. This is a public form and may not be suitable for personal concerns/requests. However this service can help alleviate wait times on email response with on-the spot resolutions to common issues (like registration). Students are prioritized in the order they join the meeting, and conversations are typically brief and focused.
